This process is a little bit more complicated, since each major phone manufacturer uses a different method to access Recovery Mode. This mode allows you to perform specific maintenance functions without having to enter the password used to unlock the device. How to factory reset through Android Recovery ModeĪssuming you have direct access to the Android phone or tablet, you can perform a factory reset through Recovery Mode. Google specifically states that the device must be active to be located or wiped, so it may be impossible to factory reset devices that are completely offline. This could happen in cases where the phone’s battery has run flat after being lost or stolen. There is one noteworthy caveat to this method: Google can’t wipe a mobile phone while it’s powered down or unable to access cellular networks.
Sign in to your Google account if you haven’t already.Thankfully, as long as you still have access to the Google account used for the phone, you can wipe it remotely.
However, while this method doesn’t require the device’s password, it does require Google account credentials. Once these steps are completed, go to the Phone Link app on your PC and follow the setup process to establish a new link.The easiest way to factory reset an Android phone is with a remote wipe. Select Back to return to Windows Settings Home, and then select Apps. Select Start (or press the Windows logo key on your keyboard), then select Settings > Phone > Unlink this PC. For each, select Show details > More actions and then Unlink this phone. You’ll be presented with a list of all your connected devices. Tap Force Stop and confirm when prompted.
